Before You Head To Bed

Take a few steps to make sure your bedroom is as cool as it can be at night
• During the daytime, draw the curtains or blinds to keep the sunlight out.
• Ensure your windows are closed on the sunny side of your home to keep the hot air out.
• Open all the windows, and ventilate your bedroom before you head to bed, to keep the bedroom cooler.

Take a hot/warm shower before heading to bed
• We all know that body temperature starts to fall as bedtime approaches; a decrease in temperature helps the body to conserve energy and direct it to other parts of the body.
• Take a hot/warm shower before heading to bed, your body will cool down when you get out of the shower as it is adjusting to the different temperature. This cooling down process is telling your body that it is time for bed.

Staying hydrated
• Ensure that you drink plenty of water throughout the day to keep hydrated. However, avoid drinking large amount of water before bed. You don’t want to wake up feeling thirsty or making an additional trip to the bathroom in the wee hours.
• Avoid alcohol and caffeine before bedtime, to avoid stimulating our central nervous system and it will cause us to be wide awake.
